Simon Owen and Nick Wright are both keen cyclists and in late 2015 they decided to set ourselves a challenge. Here’s Nick’s thoughts…
“We settled on a ‘London to Paris’ cycle event for September 2016 and nominated The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice as our designated charity.
This would be a target to get ourselves fitter and healthier, but more importantly raise as much money as possible for a charity that is close to our heart here at DPC.
We always aim to cycle most weekends, but started to up our training in the spring of 2016 as we knew there would be longer days in the saddle come September.
The event soon came around and we headed to London together by train ready for a breakfast start the following morning. Our start was from central London at rush hour, which was an experience I will certainly never forget! We had luck on our side throughout the weekend with the weather, and 2 days later we arrived at the Eiffel Tower.
We got to meet some great people that weekend, all doing their bit for a nominated charity, and it was great to ride and share stories with everyone as we took in some fantastic scenery.
It was a weekend to remember and we managed to raise almost £8,000 for the local children’s hospice, greatly exceeding our expectations. It was overwhelming to see people’s generosity for the challenge and the charity.
We now need to raise the bar for the next one!”
